Our plants waiting for installation 2027!

πŸ“° Nuts About Dee’s Berries

Our Wisconsin food forest is growing β€” even though most of it isn’t in the ground yet! 🌱

Canopy Farm Management is currently caring for about 10,000 of the roughly 12,500 plants planned for Nuts About Dee’s Berries.

Our planting timeline shifted, but fortunately these plants aren’t just sitting around waiting for us. They’re being cared for and continuing to grow and mature while we prepare for our big 2027 planting.

At Canopy are chestnuts, pawpaws, Juneberries, honeyberries, currants, aronia, sour cherries, hazelnuts, seaberries, quince and many of the trees and shrubs that will eventually make up our windbreaks.

We also have more plants growing here in our own nursery, including pawpaws, elderberries, pears and persimmons. The remaining trees and shrubs needed for the Wisconsin food forest have already been ordered and are expected to arrive in spring 2027.

And we’ve already had a pretty exciting glimpse of what’s ahead.

Some of our Juneberries produced fruit this year! 🌱

That has us cautiously hopeful that after planting next spring, we may have enough fruit to offer our first small taste of the food forest sometime in 2027. No promises yet β€” plants tend to have their own opinions about our schedules. πŸ˜‚

Eventually, these thousands of plants will become a diverse perennial agroforestry system filled with fruits, nuts and berries β€” including many foods you may have never had the opportunity to taste before.

For now, they’re growing, we’re preparing their permanent home, and it’s pretty incredible to realize that these rows of plants are the future Nuts About Dee’s Berries.

Someday these rows of pots will become rows of food.

And eventually, you’ll be able to come explore and taste our Wisconsin food forest for yourself. 🌱🌳
