📰 Fall Farm Update: Big Progress Toward Our First Planting Season
This fall farm update marks one of our biggest leaps forward yet at Nuts About Dee’s Berries. Although the season is winding down, we’ve been moving fast behind the scenes. In just a few short weeks, we completed soil amendments, tilled and disc’d the orchard fields, installed our first 119 jujubes and 65 seaberry shrubs, and finalized key designs for the future farm layout. Even better, our architect submitted the official plans for our farm building to the State of Wisconsin, bringing us one step closer to construction.
This Week at Nuts About Dee’s Berries
As we move deeper into fall, the momentum on the farm continues to build. Each project we finish brings us closer to opening day — and this week, we made some of our biggest strides yet. From field preparation to early orchard installations, every step is setting the foundation for a resilient, productive agroforestry system. If you’re curious how our perennial crops fit into that long-term vision, our Pawpaw Orchard Page offers a great example of how we design with both flavor and ecology in mind.
Fall Farm Update: What We Accomplished
Today we made huge progress in the orchard. We installed 119 jujubes and 65 seaberries, completed soil work across multiple orchard blocks, and met with contractors to move the project forward.
The weather held steady all week, which made the tilling and discing go smoothly. The team focused on soil health, drainage prep, and final grading — all of which puts us ahead for permanent cover crop installation.
More updates will be coming soon as we move into the next major milestone: planting thousands of trees this spring.
Growing Forward
Each crop we’re planting plays a purpose in our long-term agroforestry design — and we can’t wait for you to taste the results.
Fun Fact!
Seaberries contain more vitamin C than oranges.
They also thrive in poor soils, which is exactly why we’re excited to include them in our orchard design. Over time, they will help improve biodiversity, support pollinators, and provide a powerhouse fruit for future U-pick visitors.
