More Than a Farm β€” A Living Food Forest

At Nuts About Dee’s Berries, we don’t farm in straight lines or short seasons β€” we design ecosystems.

Our orchard is built using agroforestry and food forest principles, layering trees, shrubs, and ground-level crops to mimic the structure of a natural forest. This approach creates healthier soil, stronger plants, and a harvest season that stretches from spring into late fall.

Every planting decision supports long-term sustainability, biodiversity, and climate resilience β€” so this land can feed people not just today, but for generations to come.

🌱 Regenerative by Design

We grow perennial crops in layered systems that mimic natural forests, allowing the land to regenerate rather than deplete. By keeping roots in the soil year-round and minimizing disturbance, we improve soil structure, increase organic matter, and support beneficial microbes that naturally feed our plants. Over time, this creates stronger trees, healthier harvests, and a farm that becomes more resilient with every season.

Your invitation to the food forest

From U-pick harvests to hands-on workshops and seasonal tastings, our farm is designed to be experienced. Whether you’re here to gather fruit, learn new skills, or simply enjoy the orchard, every visit connects you to the land and the food it grows.

Pick at Peak Ripeness

Join us during select harvest windows to pick fruit straight from the food forest. Availability changes with the season and the weather, so U-pick opportunities are announced as crops reach their peak.

Learn by Doing

From propagation and pruning to food preservation and herbal uses, our workshops are hands-on and seasonalβ€”shaped by what’s happening in the orchard and garden at that moment.

Overstory Crops

Our upper canopy is made up of long-lived tree crops that define the structure and future of the farm. These plantings take time to mature, but they provide staple harvests and long-term resilience.

On our farm:
Chestnuts, persimmons, sugar maple, and silver maple (syrup)

Mid-Story Fruits

Beneath the canopy, our mid-story fruits produce some of the most anticipated harvests. These crops are sensitive to seasonal conditions and vary in timing from year to year.

On our farm:
Pawpaw, jujube, and pears

Shrubs & Berries

This layer produces the widest variety of fruits and often the earliest harvests. Many have short picking windows, making them some of the most time-sensitive crops on the farm.

On our farm:
Currants, aronia, elderberry, honeyberry, juneberry, goumi, bush cherry, and more

Specialty & Seasonal Crops

Some harvests don’t follow a predictable pattern. These offerings are highly seasonal, weather-dependent, and often available only in small quantities.

On our farm:
Winecap mushrooms and limited seasonal harvests
