πŸ“° Nuts About Dee’s Berries. Main News Block

On January 20, 2026, the Decatur Township Board approved the Conditional Use Permit for Nuts about Dee’s Berries. This approval is one of the required steps toward hosting on-farm events such as gatherings, workshops, and celebrations tied to our perennial orchard.

We’re grateful for the thoughtful review and support from the township as we continue working through the remaining approvals needed to open the farm to the public in new ways.

Β

πŸ“Œ What This Approval Means

This approval allows us to move forward with planning future on-farm events while continuing to develop our orchard of specialty fruits and nuts, including honeyberries, currants, aronia, pawpaws, and chestnuts. It represents progress toward creating a place where agriculture, education, and community come together.

A second review with Green County Zoning is scheduled for March 18, 2026, which is required before events can be officially hosted.

πŸ” What’s Next

We’ll continue sharing updates as we work through the remaining approvals and prepare the farm for future public offerings. If you’d like to follow along, we’ll be posting milestones here as they happen.

We appreciate everyone who has supported this project as it continues to take shape.

Upcoming updates

With this approval in place, the next few weeks mark a busy and exciting stretch for the farm. Several key milestones are coming together as we move from planning into active installation and planting.

In the weeks ahead, we expect to share updates on:

  • Arrival and planting of elderberry cuttings

  • Early chestnut seed germination as trays come to life

  • Foundation work for the farm building, anticipated in mid-February

  • Start of farm building construction shortly after

  • Well installation, expected late February into March

  • The upcoming Green County Conditional Use Permit hearing

  • Arrival of seaberry plants and grafting materials for spring work

We’ll continue sharing updates as each of these milestones takes shape.

As always, timelines remain weather- and approval-dependent, but we’re excited to keep moving forward.
