Pawpaw Smoothie
🥤 Pawpaw Smoothie: Creamy, Tropical & Naturally Sweet
This Pawpaw Smoothie is a cool, creamy tribute to America’s forgotten fruit. With a texture similar to mango and a flavor that hints at banana, custard, and melon, the Asimina triloba (pawpaw) is ideal for blending into silky smoothies. It’s rich, filling, and naturally sweet — no added sugar needed.
At Dee’s Nutz and Berries in Brodhead, WI, we’re cultivating one of the largest American pawpaw plantings in the region, with our first public harvest expected in 2028. While our trees grow, we’re sharing easy, nutrient-dense recipes like this one to highlight just how versatile this native fruit can be.

Pawpaw Smoothie Recipe
🍽️ Ingredients for a Creamy Pawpaw Smoothie
- 1 ripe pawpaw (flesh only, seeds removed)
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ cup plain Greek yogurt or coconut yogurt
- ¼ cup orange juice (or pineapple juice for extra tropical flavor)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ¼ tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Ice cubes (as needed for consistency)
- Optional: 1 tbsp chia or flax seeds
- Optional: ½ cup frozen mango or peach for added fruitiness
🥄 Instructions for PawPaw Smoothie
- Scoop the pawpaw pulp into a blender along with banana, yogurt, juice, and vanilla.
- Add any optional ingredients and a few ice cubes.
- Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
- Taste and adjust flavor or consistency as needed.
- Pour into a chilled glass and serve immediately.
🍁 From the Orchard Tip
- Only use fully ripe pawpaws — the texture should be soft and the flesh easily scoopable.
- If your pawpaw is astringent or underripe, blending it may amplify bitterness. Always taste the pulp first.
- For a dairy-free version, substitute with plant-based milk or yogurt.
- Want to make it a smoothie bowl? Top with granola, toasted coconut, or sliced pawpaw.
