🌰 Chestnut Stuffing: Savory and Satisfying

There’s something timeless about a rustic stuffing dish wafting with the aromas of roasted chestnuts, fresh herbs, and golden toasted bread. This Chestnut Stuffing Recipe transforms humble ingredients into a rich, nutty, and savory centerpiece. Whether you’re planning a holiday feast or a comforting winter dinner, this recipe will be remembered long after the last bite.

Chestnuts are naturally low in fat, gluten-free, and packed with vitamin C—something few nuts can claim! Not only do they add subtle sweetness and texture to the stuffing, but they’re also a healthier option for many diets. According to NutritionValue.org, chestnuts are a great source of manganese and fiber too, supporting immune health and digestion.

🌰 Chestnut Stuffing: Savory and Satisfying

📝 Ingredients for Chestnut Stuffing

  • 2 cups peeled, roasted chestnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 6 cups day-old artisan bread, cubed
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (or olive oil for dairy-free)
  • 2½ cups vegetable or chicken broth
  • Salt and freshly cracked pepper, to taste

🥣 Instructions for Chestnut Stuffing Recipe

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a large baking dish.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add onion, celery, and garlic. Cook until softened, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add the chestnuts and herbs, cooking for another 2–3 minutes. Stir in salt and pepper.
  4. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes with the sautéed mixture. Pour in broth gradually, tossing until well moistened but not soggy.
  5. Transfer to baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake an additional 15–20 minutes until golden brown on top.
  6. Let rest 5–10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm!

🍁 From the Orchard Tip

Make this recipe gluten-free by using your favorite GF bread. For a richer flavor, try browning the butter before adding the veggies. This stuffing also makes an incredible leftover base for savory breakfast hash—just add eggs and sauté!
