Aronia Jam

From the Orchard
At Dee’s Nutz and Berries in Brodhead, WI, we call this Aronia Jam The Bold Berry Spreadbecause subtle just isn’t its style. Aronia berries, known for their deep purple color and sky-high antioxidant levels, bring bold tartness and a velvety texture that makes this jam a standout. It’s like your classic berry jam, but with more attitude.

We love that aronia (also called chokeberry) has a history rooted in native North American landscapes and is now gaining attention in gourmet kitchens and wellness spaces alike. With notes of wild blueberry, cranberry, and dry red wine, this fruit plays beautifully with both sweet and savory dishes. Slather it on toast, swirl it into Greek yogurt, or pair it with a sharp cheddar or aged gouda—it’ll hold its own every time.

With our farm opening in 2028, we’re proud to feature powerhouse berries like aronia in both traditional preserves and modern culinary twists. The Bold Berry Spread of Aronia Jam

🍽️ Aronia Jam Ingredients

  • 4 cups aronia berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 box (1.75 oz) low-sugar fruit pectin
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups granulated sugar
  • Optional: 1/2 tsp vanilla or cinnamon for a flavor twist

🥣 Aronia Jam Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine aronia berries and water. Simmer over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, mashing the berries gently.
  2. Optional: Strain the mixture for a smoother texture, or leave it rustic with skins intact.
  3. Stir in lemon juice and pectin. Bring to a rolling boil.
  4. Add sugar and return to a full boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1–2 minutes.
  5. Remove from heat. Skim foam if needed.
  6. Ladle hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-inch headspace. Seal and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
  7. Cool completely. Check seals before storing.
